Birth

In the church we celebrate birth by dedicating babies and children to God.

Thanksgiving Service is a wonderful celebration of God’s goodness in giving us children through birth or adoption. In this service we speak God’s blessing, His determination to do good, over your baby or child; we set apart two or three friends to act as role models and support for your baby or child; and we give you a Bible with wonderful stories of God’s love. Thanksgiving Services are great fun and very powerful.

Some people like to mark the physical birth of their child by looking forward to the day when the baby will be born again through the Spirit of Jesus. We call this baptism – although some people still use the term ‘christening’. In the Bible baptism is talked about in three ways:
• a birth, a spiritual birth, in which someone is born for a second time
• a bath to wash away dirt - but not just from the outer body, this is deep cleansing
• a death, in fact a funeral service to release a new life with Jesus.

You make some really important Promises when you are baptised or bring someone to be baptised.
