HOME VISION

Vision

Our purpose is to change the culture of our town, Weston-super-Mare, by establishing God’s Kingdom in the lives of the people who live and work there and in its institutions.

We love Weston but we experience the same issues as many seaside towns. We would prefer our town to be safe, vibrant, positive and fun. We want Weston to be a place where men honour women; the young respect the old; people of different nations live together happily; and peer pressure provokes people to live outstanding lives. We envisage by the Holy Spirit the day when people will come to Weston because they have heard that God is here.

The local church is God’s tool for transformation. By 2012 we will grow to 1000 people helping one another to live the way Jesus lived and to do in Weston the things He did. In particular we will:

• Resolve the gender imbalance of our community so that there are at least as many men as women in our church
• Particularly welcome those from ethnic minority groups and work towards the target of 17% of our congregations with family roots in a nation other than one of the UK nations
• Have 25% of our congregations between the ages of 18-30 years and send at least two people from this age group into full-time Christian work each year
• Engage children under 15 in order that we can reverse the very significant decline in church involvement of this target group. They will make 16% of our congregation
• Develop the spiritual maturity of those over 65 years of age and provide excellent pastoral care for them
• Grow in such a way that the other churches in Weston also grow alongside St Paul’s.

We have a Five Year Plan to help us but most of all we are relying on God’s Spirit.

We will celebrate our progress and God’s goodness to us on 2 December 2012 - the one hundredth anniversary of the opening of the current church building.
